Character- Wolf

For the wolf I wanted to work upwards from the base of the snake girl and add muscle so that they looked like they could have the same ancestry but have evolved from that into a slightly different tribe.

On the face you can see that I have kept an almost dog like structure. However I have kept the layout of a humans face in the narrowness so that it doesn't look peculiar.

To achieve this I have muscled him out quite a lot to make the silhouette wider and more recognisable. The loin cloth will be the only piece of clothing that he will wear as a base and then I will add the attire that is related to the wolf.

Because of this he will appear to be the most nature based of them all which is relative to the lore that we created which had the wolf people as the warriors and guardians of the mountain.

One of the pieces of inspiration that I looked into was the picture above. The idea of the wolf man wearing the pelt of the wolf was something that would change his silhouette to make him look recognisable enough and would also allow animations that were a lot more interesting- for instance there can be movement in the pelt as he runs.

These four shots show the pelt once I had added it to the wolf man.

I felt that this was really successful and gave the character a lot of depth that would have otherwise been missing.

One of the key decisions that I had to make was how to have the pelt attached to the character. Originally I was going to have the paws attached to the bands on his wrists but felt that would look stretched and leave his front missing something.
So I then decided to have the paws come over in front of him and rest on his chest as though the wolf were holding on to him. This is seen above.

However then there was the problem of the pelt theoretically flying off in a real situation so this didn't seem logically. In the end I have crossed the paws over although below I did try to have them knotted  but that didn't look as effective so I've gone with it as if the claws are pinned to each other, crossing over.

This image shows the claws that I've attached to the wolf. These have replaced the axe I designed because they were more appropriate for his close range attack. Because he moves so quickly and has to be able to slash properly, the axe took too long to swing back and then forward.
